"Curiouser and curiouser..."

Today one of my girl friends welcomed her own little Alice into the world and it got me thinking about the Alice we all know and love... there is something magical that Disney created down that rabbit hole, something we should all think about bringing into our lives...Whimsy! With all the stresses of life we sometimes forget about things like whimsy but there are those moments in every day where something catches your eye and it makes you smile or even laugh...bring one of those moments into your house. Walt Disney created such a fascinating world and there is so much inspiration to take from it.
I am not saying that any one should re-create wonderland literally but there are so many elements that can be a stunning focal point. The classic checkerboard floor makes a dramatic statement with contrasting stains without the fully bold contrast of the black and white.Or using a bold color with a crisp white palette can add a visual statement much like the magical colors used in the movie. Or like in the living room at the left using frames as the art is an unexpected touch much like the jumbo cards used as wall art...those would make even the Queen of Hearts stop in her tracks! Art gods and goddesses have also found the allure of Alice... photographer Annie Leibovitz has time and time again felt the pull down the rabbit hole, I adore this stunning interpretation of Alice. Don't be afraid to oversize your art!

It is easy to go over the top with whimsy in a child's room and if you really want to take it up a notch go bold with a piece like the accordion dresser from Posh Tots or the toadstool table set from Kaboodle. What child wouldn't slip into a dream land with things like these in their room?
Or put a little whimsy in the closet with an infant tutu from Layla Grayce...I mean really- how cute is that...(my sister is thanking her stars she is having a boy because she knows I would fill the closet with those if she was having a girl!)

And while you are adding whimsy to the wee one's closet why not add some to your own... I know the striped tights might be a bit much for most grown women but the gorgeous key necklace from Etsy has to make you smile.

And don't forget it can be as small as lamp, it doesn't have to be bold or over-sized...just try to add something to your life that makes you stop and smile; something that for a moment takes you to a magical place like wonderland.
