my life in boxes...

After a grueling last week of work, I am packing up my house to move...putting the last 7 years of living in this town into boxes has got me seeing squares. I do love a good 90degree angle especially when it comes to decorating. With fabric being soft and flowing, and its organic patterns swirling around pillows and curtains, having a hard 90 degree angle thrown into the mix can give just the right balance to a room. Lighting is a great and unexpected place to bring in some hard angles...

Or if you want to go bigger with your boxes; get inspires with some boxie architecture

Or if you want something more middle of the road to add some corners to your life try it with accent furniture like a Parsons Desk or go with clean lined cabinets

I promise once I get through all these boxes I will be much more inspired and inspiring...

She may not do anything, but she always looks great doing it.

Let's just get this out of the way...I LOVE BARBIE! I just am one of those girls- always have been and probably always will be. I mean seriously she can do anything; and she has everything!
As a little girl I dreamed vivid pink dreams of living in Barbie's dream house so when I found out one of my favorite designer,  Jonathan Adler, was creating a real live Malibu dream house I about died...I have remained in shock and awe of it for months...and well honestly with the addition of a little nephew to my family thoughts have gone a bit blue recently .
but how oh how can I bring this into my house without being that crazy Barbie lady?
Round benches have been around for ages but mostly on the hospitality side...I love the idea of using on in a transitional area of your home
The leather one below from Global Views is a much more do-able version for my own house
Moroccan Pouffs have been in every home decor spread for the last few years and I them- they are a great way to add a pop of color as well as some extra seating but frankly I will take Barbie's just as they are in metallic silver leather- the perfect sparkley addition to any room!
I love the collection of frames- it is always a safe bet to use the same frame in a collage, but I also love the white sofa as the foundation for the fun colorful pillows
a circular sectional might not work in every house so I love that this one from LA Furniture keeps the clean simple legs of Barbie's but with a more usable shape for most homes.

But the center-piece of the living room in the custom Barbie mirror over the fire place
And while I am pretty sure finding and buying that many original Barbie's would bankrupt me I do love the shape they make...this one from Global Views comes in two sizes and two finishes to make a great statement in any interior
Plus- this star-burst is a bit more man-friendly!
Or if you really want to try and bring in some man-friendly Barbie and have a spare 10k laying around go for the limited addition foosball table from FAO Schwartz
Sweet Pink Dreams! xoxo

knit happens...

I have long wanted to learn how to knit...a few years ago on a snow day, my sister-in-law patiently tried to teach me and my niece....I have so far managed to complete 2 scarves...my niece just knocked out an adorable hat for my new nephew- clearly she has progressed at a much faster rate than I have!  I love yarn- as that falls awfully close in category to fabric, string and trims but for some reason knitting just hasn't grabbed me the way it grabs some people, like my friend Megan- she knits up a storm! and she recently showed me some knitting blogs- man those people have one strong community! but it got me intrigued in knitting again...so I had to do some digging and finding knitting all over the interior world I think I just might be inspired enough to pick my needles back up...

and now with my new nephew I can strive for adorable things like this:
However some knit, I am not so sure about:

Can you really find it in a cookie?

I am a sucker for a fortune cookie...it is my absolute favorite part of eating Chinese food. I never really get anything good and certainly never get double fortunes but yet I crack into each one with the hope and excitement that it might say something interesting...the best I have gotten recently is: There are no stupid questions, just stupid answer.(and oh yes- it said answer not answers). There is something about the hidden message that makes me smile and reminds me of when I was a child. One summer, my mom had a portrait painted of my sister and I, I loved the whole experience- it was the coolest artist- she showed me how when she was painting she would add words into the painting that she was feeling at the moment...ever since then I have always loved things with hidden messages...so naturally I fell in love with the new collection of pendants by Rich Brilliant Willing...

they have hidden messages debossed on them! The Bright Side Lights is a collection of 3 pendants that can be hung as pendants or laid on their sides and used as a lamp (use a silver crown bulb to reduce glare if you do this)

even without their clever messages they are super chic with their minimal elegance
and to further my love for these...the press photo they are using features one of my all time favorite tables...Atilla the Gnome!
and Atilla has a friend too! (you can get them at LaDiff)
I personally am still holding out for the black version! *donations welcome to help me adopt him
