Manhattan dreams...again...

Nestled in at 540 West 28th Street is Elle Decor's latest creation...the Modern Life Concept House Condo...like everything they do, it is flawless! designed and styled by 10 of the most up and coming designers it offers a fresh take on contemporary living and design. And while I would move right in, it may not be for everyone but it does hold plenty suggestions that you can incorporate in your home- no matter where you live!

Use pops of color and pattern outside! The world of outdoor fabrics has grown by leaps and bounds- the colors and patterns available now are just as chic and stylish as indoor fabrics- so no reason to have frumpy cushions!

I love the eclectic nature of this kitchen...down to the place settings! but check out the chairs- always have comfy chairs around your dining table, it will encourage people to sit and keep you company while you cook and linger after supper for conversation. Number 1 secret to a great dinner party- comfy chairs!

I am a sucker for book shelves- and while I do love books, let them multi-task! in a tight space like Manhattan living is, the shelves are a great spot to stage a bar!

Mix it up! use different fabrics, textures and scale to create visual interest on a neutral sofa

Use living things! I am a big proponent of flowers, but fruits and vegetables are the best decoration for kitchens! But don't waste a bunch of money on a bowl of fruit to only look at- buy things that you like and eat them too! Consider it the Decorating Diet!

I adore wall sconces, but sometimes you just can't get power where you want it- especially in apartments... use candles! Just as you can have lights re-wired, you can also have them un-wired to use the old fashioned way!

When you choose your "pop" of color, repeat it subtly...like the black candles in the bedroom

Never be afraid to let your pop of color come from plants
Just like mixing fabrics, mix hues and textures for a lovely bouquet

Every room needs a little sparkle and a little whimsy- I am in love with this crystal mobile! I feel a DIY project coming on...

I'll only say it one more time- bring something living into your home! pick up a bunch of tulips at the grocery or snip something out of your garden if you have a green thumb! Here in DC you can buy flowers downtown on almost every street corner...no excuses!

Black walls- not at all dark and depressing! With a lacquer finish they actually bounce the light around

Ok- so I have to admit, I don't love the bed- I am a fan of a real bed frame, up off the ground!

Be bold! and don't ever apologize for it! If you love something, art or a piece of furniture- buy it!

Love the mirrored back-splash in the kitchen- easy to clean plus it makes the kitchen seem larger!

You can never go wrong by having your major pieces of upholstery in a good quality neural fabric

Every living room needs a comfy chair

Use the good china...is the queen really ever coming over for dinner? no-so enjoy it!

Have a great view? park you desk in front of it and enjoy it! If privacy is an issue just make sure you leave enough room behind it to pull the drapes shut when you need to!

make your bed your sanctuary, buy the best sheets you can afford and surround yourself with things that feel good, like throws and pillows
