Going nuts...

So I have been on a bit of a media fast as my sister has banned me from announcing my new nephew's birth on facebook before she does... she didn't say anything about my blog....I am in love- he is the most adorable perfect little thing ever!
I love this squirrel lamp from Roost- I think it would make a great night-light.
So needless to say from my previous post Sunday was a bit of a long day...but so worth it! Monday I was dragging all day and then this morning it was all gloomy and cold so I went to Starbucks for a morning pick me up...and did it ever. Overnight my local Starbucks turned into a Christmas wonderland; all the holiday blends are in and all the overpriced swag was overloading every surface. As I waited in line I couldn't help but smile at the adorable woodland creatures on the holiday bags.
And since I heard so many comments about loving the owl trend I figured I would take a little further and add their furry friends to the trend!
Aside from the trash eating realities of these furry creatures they are really cute and are even cuter when stylized to be kid friendly.
Etsy has loads of adorable original pieces for the animal lover in all of us
I love this one for the future hunters out there!
I would love to have this little bunny on my finger- it would make me smile all day long!

Bring a little nature inside and use a painted branch as a centerpiece

so take time out of your evening to enjoy the tiny little creatures...just don't try to cuddle the wild ones!

tiny trends...

All this talk of tiny babies within my circle of friends has got me thinking small, very tiny small. In 1902 a tiny baby girl named Colleen was born, while many know Colleen Moore from her fame as the original flapper she also left behind a tiny legacy that is still capturing the hearts and imaginations of children. Collen spent years and gobs of money creating The Fairy Castle that now lives in Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. Even in my twenties seeing the magical Fairy Castle was awe inspiring! From the magic garden with a real weeping willow (oh yes it cries tears!) to the drawing room that measures 2'3" x 3'3" and features a working chandelier made of Colleen's own diamond, emerald and pearl jewelry it is a sight to see. Anyone visiting Chicago needs to add this to their list of things to see- the whole museum is fun so give yourself time to enjoy it.

Colleen was light years ahead of her time! These days the tiny trend is huge! Bruxe Design is selling out of their collection of tiny chair necklaces...Breeders of teacup piggies have months long waiting lists for their miniature farm animals. I have to say I think the tiny pig trend is a bit silly, yes they are pink thus I love them! but I have to say the tiny dog trend was much more reasonable than the tiny pig trend. Tiny cakes...errr cupcakes are causing traffic jams with their long waits for the high priced pint sized sweets. If you haven't jumped on the cupcake band wagon- suck it up do it! From NYC to LA cupcake shops are popping up every where. There is level of joy and nostalgia that a $5 cupcake can give you and the sugar rush rocks too! I personally am a huge sucker for the Red Velvet from Georgetown Cupcakes- and how cute is it with the tiny heart!!

At market I found the most fabulous tiny trend... tiny chairs! While Pottery Barn Kids has been making little bean bag-ish chair for years Oly Studio has raised the bar even higher. They have taken their best selling style chairs and they shrank them! Tiny little sleek styles for posh little kids in zebra, luxe linens and drool inspiring velvets. While the price tag is not tiny they are quite the conversation piece!

And if you feel your house is too big to house these tiny trends..down size! I have for sometime now been obsessed with The Tumbleweed Tiny House Company. They offer plans and prefab houses that range in size from 65 to 837 square feet. You can buy one on wheels as a chic home away from home for under $50,000- yes you can buy a tiny house for less than a new car! Or if you fall in the vast majority of people who feel their house shrinks when in-laws come near build a bigger model in your back yard and stick the out-laws there!  Personally I am in love with the B53 model- with its roomy 837 square feet featuring 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and a walk in closet!
